News Summer 2015 – Trekking in Nepal

Trekking in Nepal. Our October talk was a travelogue given by Paulo Donnoli. He and Ria have made many trips to Nepal and their personalised account was fascinating. They took us on a colouful tour of this unique country, and their love for the people and the country was very clear. The risks of snowfalls, avalanches, not to say icy temperatures did not appear to be an issue!

This was our final fundraising event of the year. The strings of coloured lights strewn among the gazebos, the candles scattered around, the variety of wares for sale and the enthusiastic carol singing made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.Thank you to all involved.

March Talk

Marathon on China

Rika Mitchell has kindly agreed to facilitate this event. It consists of 3 BBC produced DVDs and Rika will add some interesting everyday stuff, including the impact of the huge interest free loans and agreements signed with SA recently. She and Ian are regular visitors to China and Rika has also agreed to answer questions. The DVD trilogy covers the history of China and its emperors, the role of Mao and how he is revered, and how modern day China has morphed into a global superpower. As it will be an unusually longish evening, between 2 & 3 hours, we would like to know if the subject matter has appeal. Please let Dianne know if you would be interested and if the feedback is positive, we will go ahead.

As this is the final newsletter of 2015, we would like to thank you for your wonderful support during this past year. The Museum simply cannot function or thrive without our Friends of the Museum and our volunteers. We wish you all a festive holiday season and a prosperous new year.
